If you’ve ever seen someone who is the pure personification of stress; you know that blur whizzing by you with a phone in one hand, jobs in the other, coffee in the other and pointing at you with their fourth arm. I don’t know where they get it from but it’s just there. These are your traffic people, I mean the efficient ones or merely over energetic types that are more uptight than Dick Chaney watching reruns of the L Word.
They get verbally bitch slapped from all sides and get paid less than a jizz mopper from your local peep show. They work long hours and have a non stop assortment of things to worry about because you guessed it, they WILL get their asses chewed out at least six time sin one day from creatives, account execs and I’ve even seen a media person go off on a traffic person… random day, random shit, but I saw it so can’t deny it.
By nature, this is a woman’s job hands down. Not because it pays shit, but because I don’t know of one guy who would be able to do this correctly, get bitched at and still have the sheer tenacity to plod along chin high to keep busting their asses. These are your friends. AE’s, Creatives… take care of the traffic people that get shit done, because these are the same people who will manage your jobs beforehand (ideally) to know when and what to bump so all can come out smelling like pretty, pretty daisies. And they rarely get thanks, and I can’t help but think that this sucks. I actually tried traffic for two days until I said enough… that’s how much of a pussy I am when it comes to what these people have to put up with. And still they don’t get respected or appreciated. It’s like a teacher. It’s a very decent profession and when done right it can save multiple asses, but it gets shit pay, shit treatment, lack of respect or appreciation from all sides and still they do their job to the best of their abilities.
As a very worthwhile remedy for this malady I merely suggest one thing, one day, have AE’s and Creatives either work in the department or tag along so they can shadow traffic personnel. Just one warning, be sure to have Dramamine nearby, with the speed some of these people work at, you’re going to definitely need it.
