SeNotu #4: Say no to the Secret

Wanna know a secret? A platinum haired hippie Australian is making money off of you because she believes in the Law of Attraction. Let me explain, she wanted money and thought about getting money and wished upon a star to receive money and spelled money in her alphabet soup and translated the letters in the word money to numbers to play in the lotto and then made a happy go lucky book, spruced it up with some magnanimous bullshit and has caused you, the hopeless romantic trying to get help from a self help book (a concept that defeats itself based solely on semantics), to spend money, to achieve happiness for yourself and in large part to her.

Here’s another secret, I haven’t read THE Secret because it sounds like some sort of hypnotic psycho babble that honestly frightens me when coming from the mouth of someone who has bought into the fad. In a nutshell (and thanks to wikipedia), you have a heart to heart conversation with the universe (if such a thing is even conceivable), you ask for what you want, you believe that you will get it and finally you ready your body to receive. I've heard of similar concepts to this such as praying, clicking the heels of your read shoes and wishing on a star, and much like the tenets exposed by Rhonda Byrne, you are pretty much in the same boat as people who are pissed at life, except that in your delusion, you really believe that simply thinking of things you want will bring them to you.

Last I check all I've gotten from life has been through hard work, good luck, and genetics. Being overly optimistic has often offered me some of the greatest disappointments in life and I rather keep a real take on things considering the positive and negative outcomes and hoping for the best while expecting the worst. It's worked out pretty well so far, it's no secret and I didn't have to buy a book to buy into what someone else uses as their life mantra. Now if you insist that you need a book to find happiness and success then fine, but just in case you needed reminding, a secret is information that is kept hidden from others and shouldn't be as easily accessible as say a book or a DVD.

The people who ask the universe and don't get squat aren't going to write books about it.

That book was all over the media down here last year.

It is either 90% bullshit and 10% marketing or 10% bullshit and 90% marketing; I just can't work oujt which.
