Back in the day we used to use white latex for all things milk, and a variety of plastics and polymers for everything else. And let's not forget about spray-on glycerin to make everything look cold...
that and dry ice so it looks piping hot. I actually met a guy who had bitten into a mock burger because he got to the set when everyone was out. Fucker was lucky to not need stitches.
