5 Simple Reasons why the best Bands of all time come from the UK, according to: Me

Ok let's not beat around the bush. The best bands of all time, of all the days, years, centuries that man has walked the earth have come from one place only. The United Kingdom. Period. Long live the Queen, hail mary, whatever. The UK has it, and it has it good.

Not only they have produced the best bands of all time, they still are turning them out as we speak. Muse? Coldplay? OOh yes. The british know how to rock. Me love them long time.

Do the math. Don't believe me? Let me give you five amazing reasons.

1) The Beatles.

2) The Who.

3) Pink Floyd

4) Queen.

5) Led Zeppelin.

Jesus... This is way too hard. People we have to mention because if not someone will come and shoot us are: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, The Kinks, Radiohead... Lord have mercy, this post will never end. I have to stop here.

Feel free to revise this list as you wish. And if you can write back with an USA argument... go right ahead, I double dog dare you. If you can up this list with american bands - NOT ARTISTS, the game is on.

No doubt the British have done a remarkable job with American music. They’ve taken the ingredients of rock and roll and turned it into pure magic. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Stones… they will forever live in music history.

Speaking of history… What was British music like before the 1950s? If it takes you more than 90 seconds to come up with any names, that’s the point.

As countless PBS specials and history show us, today’s rock and roll has its roots in southern American black and white trash music – blues, country, jazz, gospel, folk... uniquely American music. Rock is a hodge-podge of several musical styles and trends that were carefully blended and slow cooked for many, many years.

It’s the reason why Elvis can credit his fame and legacy to black music. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Sonny Dae, John Lee Williamson and many other black mo’fos laid the foundation.

The U.S. exported rock to the U.K., and the U.K. threw it back in full force.

For every Queen, there is a Jimmy Hendrix (and his band The Experience).

For every Coldplay, there is a Pearl Jam.

For every Who, there is an Aerosmith.

For every Pink Floyd, there is a Grateful Dead.

For every Clash, there are the Ramones.

For every Led, there is Guns n Roses.

And let’s not forget… Van Halen, The Eagles, Metallica, The Allman Brothers…

To be honest, in the game of the bands, the UK wins out. That's why there have been several british rock invasinos and hardly a whimper from the other side of the pond. I'm not saying the US doesn't put up a good fight, and lord knows we have musicians just as good as the UK, but what the hell do you compare the Beatles to?

By the way, I'm not saying the US bands mentioned aren't epic, and I'm so glad Nirvana wasn't mentioned as is the case 90% of the time when trying to defend the US band market, but in general terms, up to the 50's it was all US bands laying down the tracks, and after that it's British dominance for the most part.

Now one thing though... Coldplay with its ripoff of Satriani and Muse with it's last gay song actually have put a damper on things for the Brits and I can't help but enjoy Coldplay but think they're overrated... same goes for Muse who are a more accesible and slightly crunchier Radiohead.

What I can and will mention however, is that as far as mellow hippie music goes, I think it's a much closer battle and that with names like Phish, Dave Mathews, The Dead, and company, that's a debate US bands can win.

I would NEVER include Nirvana in anything!

Is it wrong for me to admit that I only play Dave Matthews when I do the laundry and mop the floor?

It just seems so chillax music, you know...

Oh. The Hendrix. Now that is another damn post. That man was the fucking bomb! I would have done lines with that man, easy. :-)
